Sense là một từ được dùng rất nhiều trong văn học thuật. Từ này có thể dùng để thay thế cho những từ đơn giản như: feel, think.
Chú ý các động từ đi kèm để tạo thành collocations:
A person can develop/feel/find a sense of...
Something can give/bring/foster/instill a sense of...
VÍ DỤ 01:
Thay vì nói
Teachers should make sure (that) students feel enjoyable when learning all subjects.
Có thể nói
Teachers should help students develop a sense of enjoyment in learning all subjects.
VÍ DỤ 02:
Thay vì nhiều bạn nói là stable job, nhiều tài liệu sách báo của Tây thường dùng a sense of job security - cảm giác có công việc ổn định.
Thay vì nói
Most workers think that a stable job is very important.
Có thể nói
For most workers, a sense of job security is very important
VÍ DỤ 03
Khi nói về tinh thần/bản sắc/lòng tự hào dân tộc, có thể nói a sense of national identity/pride hoặc a sense of attachment to a country.
Some songs can help (to) foster a sense of national pride in children.
Teachers need to instill a sense of national pride in students.
Learning history can help to develop/build a sense of attachment to the country.
